The incumbent leaders of NSS are making a big mistake by their eternal posturing against all elected governments in Kerala. NSS has repeatedly lost all golden chances of increasing its assets and any benefits for Nairs by such unwanted attitudes. This sort of egoism is what brought down the community in the not-so-distant past and our legendary Mannam had to struggle quite a lot to get us out of this self-defeating syndrome. Nair and Paniker must understand that they are not like Mannam and only a miniscule of Nairs will back them in another Liberation Struggle. The difference between Mannam and Paniker is like that of Mahatma Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. Ordinary folks will volunteer to even sacrifice their lives when the call comes from someone who has dedicated his whole life for the community and not for his own family.
Even after Mannam era, there were times when we had able and intelligent leaders like Kalathil and Kidangoor on top of the organization. And there were politicians like Pinnarai and Sudhakaran then also. But we never witnessed an ugly war of words like the current one. The likes of Pinnarai and Sudhakaran must be answered by their matching counterparts in NSS and not by the General Secretary himself. Ignoring the wild jackals, keeping a studied silence and concentrating on the work of a GS in a community organization (not political organization) would have been the best policy for Paniker. Instead he has lowered the noble position of NSS General Secretary to the lowest level ever. CPM is playing a well laid out plan and our foolish leaders have easily fallen into their trap. We should have remembered that NSS had nothing to do with Liberation Struggle. It was Mannam, the Congress leader, who participated in it and Mannam had always kept the two apart. Actually it is UDF who should defend Mannam and not NSS. But Paniker is nothing but a petty pawn in the hands of outdated politicians like R.Balakrishna Pillai and an illiterate yet ambitious ‘sakuni’ like Sukumaran Nair. The incompetent President PV is only part of the scum that has risen to the top of sewage water that NSS leadership is currently.
If NSS is not to die a natural death, the well-wishers of the organization must think of reforming our bye-laws and policies with immediate effect:-
• Limit the number of terms of President and GS to maximum two in a lifetime. Abolish the post of Assistant Secretary.
• Bar President and GS from holding any other post. Paniker disgraced the post by becoming a member of Guruvayoor Devaswom (only to shove in 15 members of his family into the Devaswom)
• Keep away from any form of alliance with the organized Christian community, which will only destroy NSS in the long run (always remember that they will use us and then get away with anything under the garb of minorities). The recent inauguration of NSS website by a tainted Christian leader is a disgrace for our whole community (for Paniker it was only thanksgiving for the favours bestowed on his IDBI son when the womanizer leader was a minister of state at the centre)
• Bar office bearers of political parties from the Director Board and Pradhinidhi Sabha by provisions in the bye-laws
• Make the Taluk Unions strong and almost independent like Eranakulam Karayogam. We need only a high level co-ordination outfit at Changanaserry.
• Maintain strong links with other Hindu organizations and become pioneers in consolidation of Hindu votes for the sake of our future generations
If organized Hindu organizations like NSS and SNDP do not bridge their differences and discover ways to work together, the plight of Hindus in Kerala is going to be miserable in this century itself. All of us know it in our heart of hearts, even those Hindus who are caught under the grip of Communism. But we have no one working to prevent the catastrophe. NSS leaders must strive to bring all the good aspects of Hinduism into the lives and homes of all Nairs. Merely sporting tilaks (and indulging in all bad things) will not make one a good Hindu. If we do not act today, it might be too late tomorrow.
Let us pray for the emancipation of NAIRS and NSS from the hands of deceitful, ineffective, corrupt and inefficient Panikers, Sukumarans and Peevees.
